Olive history:
Olives spread from the Holy Land throughout the Mediterranean about 4,000 years ago. They are among the oldest known cultivated plants in the world. Olives have been found in Egyptian tombs from 2000 years BC. The benefits of the olive were revealed to the early Greeks and Romans. As the Romans expanded their kingdom, they brought the olive with them.

During baptism in the Christian church, Holy Oil, often olive oil, may be used for anointment. The combination of olive oil and fragrance (like Myrrh) is known as a “chrism,” a holy oil consecrated by a bishop and administered during a blessing. Such oil was used to anoint the early kings of the Greeks and Jews. The use of oil is found in many religions and cultures. The olive trees that cover the northern Holy Land are said to be 2,000 years old.
